Naomi Klein

Naomi Klein is a well known leftist activist and author of many well known books. Despite her political leanings she has both criticized the far left environmental movements for certain harmful carbon credits, and far right groups for not nearly doing enough to mitigate changes in the way we are adding millions of tons of greenhouse gasses (This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs the Climate) and has admitted the harms the left has done on society by ignoring the rampant commercialism that in some cases harms academics and other institutions (No Logo)

However, in her book No is not enough (2017), some of her predictions were entirely wrong:

In Chapter 3 she calls the MOAB, the largest non-nuclear drop of US history an “act of violence so indiscriminate and disproportionate that analysts struggled to find any rationale that could resemble a coherent military strategy – because there was no strategy. The megatonnage is the message”

The existence of ISIS bunkers was certainly a rationale in this case and it was not true that analysts did not find any rationale for his action. According to NBC: “More than 1,500 miles from their stronghold in Iraq and Syria, militants affiliated with ISIS have been attempting to establish a foothold in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan, which for years has been a hotbed for other militant groups.”

“The GPS-guided bomb struck what the U.S. said was a network of tunnels where ISIS fighters were hunkered down. The aim, according to the military, was to continue the rout of a degraded fighting force.”

“As ISIS-K’s losses have mounted, they are using IEDs, bunkers and tunnels to thicken their defense,” said General John W. Nicholson, commander of America’s forces in the country. “This is the right munition to reduce these obstacles and maintain the momentum of our offensive against ISIS-K.”

The Afghan Ministry of Defense described the target as “a very important base for ISIS” and said it had been “annihilated.” It said three underground tunnels were destroyed, along with weapon and ammunition caches, and 36 ISIS fighters were killed with no loss of civilian life.”

Even according to left leaning CNN:

“Officials said the target was an ISIS cave and tunnel complex and personnel in the Achin district of the Nangarhar province, a remote area in the country’s east which borders Pakistan.] “

“Afghanistan’s ambassador to the US, Hamdullah Mohib, told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin that the bomb was dropped after fighting had intensified over the last week between US Special Forces and Afghan troops against ISIS.”

“The US and Afghan forces were unable to advance because ISIS had mined the area with explosives, so the bomb was dropped to clear the tunnels, Mohib said.”

Naomi Klein also stated Trump would not be able to resist “putting on the show of shows: the televised apocalyptic violence of a full blown war complete with guaranteed blockbuster ratings”. This WWIII prediction was as devoid of fact as we now know – but it’s particularly ironic, because this book goes on and on about the former president’s reportedly self centered way of acting… pushing unpopular war or pitting countries against each other is the opposite of what a free trade and capitalistic real estate pundit would be asking for, correct?? In other words, even left leaning political commentators should have known better.
